Day 1
Arrive and explore Rattanakosin, Bangkok's historic heart. The Grand Palace dazzles with golden spires and the sacred Emerald Buddha. Nearby Wat Pho holds the enormous Reclining Buddha and offers excellent traditional massage.
Cross the river to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) as afternoon light illuminates its porcelain-studded prang. Watch sunset from the river.
Day 2
Morning visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market (if timing aligns) - one of the world's largest markets with 15,000 stalls. Otherwise, explore Jim Thompson House museum set in traditional Thai homes.
Afternoon in Chinatown exploring temples, street food, and markets. Evening on Khao San Road for backpacker atmosphere or rooftop cocktails at a sky bar.
Days 3-4: Chiang Mai
Day 3
Fly north to Chiang Mai. Explore the old city's moat-encircled streets with over 300 temples. Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh are highlights. Evening at the famous Night Bazaar or Sunday Walking Street market.
Day 4
Early morning visit to Doi Suthep temple overlooking the city. Afternoon options: elephant sanctuary visit (ethical ones don't offer rides), Thai cooking class, or temple cycling tour. Evening: northern Thai khao soi noodle soup dinner.
Days 5-7: Islands
Day 5
Fly to Krabi or Phuket, then transfer to your chosen island. Phi Phi offers legendary beauty and nightlife. Railay Beach provides rock climbing and relaxation. Ko Lanta suits families and those seeking calm.
