4 Days in Prague Ultimate Trip
Four days in Prague reveals why this fairy-tale city enchants visitors with its Gothic spires, baroque palaces, and medieval Old Town Square. Add excellent beer at impossibly low prices, and you have one of Europe's most rewarding city breaks.
Day 1: Old Town & Jewish Quarter
Morning
Start at Old Town Square as the astronomical clock strikes the hour. Climb the Old Town Hall tower for rooftop views. Explore the surrounding Gothic and baroque architecture, including the twin spires of Tyn Church.
Afternoon
Walk through Josefov, the historic Jewish Quarter. The Old Jewish Cemetery's crowded tombstones and the poignant Pinkas Synagogue memorial to Holocaust victims deserve quiet contemplation.
Evening
Cross Charles Bridge at sunset when golden light illuminates the baroque statues. Dinner in Mala Strana (Lesser Town), the atmospheric neighborhood below the castle.
Day 2: Castle District
Morning
Arrive at Prague Castle early before crowds. The complex includes St. Vitus Cathedral (don't miss the Mucha window), Old Royal Palace, and charming Golden Lane where Kafka once lived.
Afternoon
Descend through castle gardens or take the funicular to Petrin Hill for tower views. Strahov Monastery's ornate library halls and nearby brewery make an excellent combination.
Evening
Experience traditional Czech cuisine: svickova (beef with cream sauce), vepro-knedlo-zelo (pork, dumplings, sauerkraut), and of course, excellent Czech beer at a hospoda (pub).
Day 3: Beyond the Center
Morning
Explore Vysehrad fortress for city views without castle crowds. The cemetery holds Czech cultural heroes including composers Dvorak and Smetana.
Afternoon
Choose your Prague: the beer culture of Zizkov neighborhood with its quirky bars, the art nouveau grandeur of the Municipal House, or the contemporary exhibits at DOX Center for Contemporary Art.
Evening
Classical concert in a historic church or opera at the stunning National Theatre. End with craft cocktails at a speakeasy bar.
Day 4: Day Trip or Deeper Exploration
Option 1: Kutna Hora
The bone church (Sedlec Ossuary) and medieval silver mining town make for a fascinating day trip just an hour from Prague.
Option 2: Cesky Krumlov
A fairy-tale town with a castle, winding river, and preserved medieval center. Longer trip but unforgettable.
Option 3: Local Immersion
Morning at Havelska Market, lunch at a legendary hospoda, afternoon wandering Vinohrady's elegant streets, and a final evening brewery visit.
